31 Days Series: Day 17

 Spider Puppets

When I was at the dollar store shopping for most of my supplies, I saw a pair of black work gloves.  I figured there was a craft there somewhere, so I bought them and this is what we came up with.  All of the supplies for this can be bought at Dollar Tree.

Supplies:

-black gloves (one for each spider)

- black pom poms (two for each spider)

-wiggle eyes (two for each spider)

-white glue or fabric glue

Directions:

1.  Put the glove on so its easier to see where the eyes should be placed.

2.  Glue two pom poms down right behind your knuckles (touching each other). We decided the best place was right behind your index and middle fingers. Let glue dry.

3. Take glove off and glue two wiggle eyes onto the two pom poms. Let glue dry.

My girls wanted to add some color to their spiders so we used yellow and orange pom poms for the eyes. 

31 Days Series: Day 11

 Sock Bats

This is something I learned to make when I was student teaching under an awesome first grade teacher.  For the stuffing, my girls and I used tissues from the tissue boxes we needed for the Monster Feet craft.  That way I didn't feel like we were wasting tissues.  Most of this stuff you probably already have around the house so it should be a pretty cheap craft!

Supplies:

-black dress socks (1 per bat)

-something to use as stuffing (tissue, paper towels, newspaper, etc)

-buttons or wiggle eyes (2 per bat)

-red puff paint

-black construction paper

-string

-white glue

Directions:

1.  Stuff the black dress sock with tissues or some other kind of stuffing. Don't stuff it all the way full...leave some room to tie the sock off so the stuffing won't fall out.

2.  Tie the sock with your string.  We had some black balloon string from some birthday balloons so we used that.

3.  Take two buttons and glue them on for the eyes.

4.  Use the red puff paint to draw on a mouth and fangs.

5.  Cut out some wings from the black construction paper.  To draw a pattern, fold black paper in half, draw a pattern with white chalk and cut it out.  When you are done cutting, you will have two matching wings.

6.  Glue the wings onto the back of your bat with the white glue.

7.  After the glue dries, you can hang your bat (upside down of course) from a curtain rod, suction cup hook, etc.

31 Days Series: Day 5

 
Mummy Juice Box

Parents, for younger children, make this craft ahead of time and serve it to them with their lunch. (My 4 year old did this but with me helping her quite a bit.)  I got a four pack of juice boxes and the wiggle eyes at Dollar Tree, we had the construction paper and glue sticks.  So total cost was $2 and the wiggle eyes will be used in several of my Halloween crafts.

Supplies:

-juice box (1 per mummy)

-white construction paper

-black construction paper

-wiggle eyes (2 per mummy)

-glue stick

Directions:

1. Remove the straw from the juice box.

2.  Cut a small square (depending on the size of the juice box) from the black construction paper.

3.  Glue the black square onto the front, top part of the juice box.

4.  Glue two wiggle eyes onto the black construction paper.

5.  Tear the white construction paper into strips.

6.  Glue the strips all around the juice box covering all but the wiggle eyes and the hole in the top where the straw goes.

7.  Enjoy with lunch or snack.

**Make sure kids don't squeeze the juice box or they will have a wet mummy :)

31 Days Series: Day 3

 Pumpkin Window Hangers

This is a very easy craft to make for all ages.  For the very young you can do the cutting for them and for the older kids, you can give them the supplies and let them go at it.  *There is hot glue involved so parents might want to do that part no matter the age of your child.  I got a pack of foam with 32 pieces (6 different colors), 10 pack of glitter glue (5 different colors), and a 12 pack of suction cups at Dollar Tree.  We already had a marker, pipe cleaners, hot glue gun and paintbrushes so this craft cost me $3 and I have PLENTY of the supplies we bought to do other crafts with. 

Supplies:

-orange foam paper

-green foam paper

-black permanent marker

-brown pipe cleaner

-glitter glue

-suction cups (1 per pumpkin)

-hot glue gun (If you don't have hot glue or just don't feel like fooling with it, use tape to attach the pipe cleaners to the back of the pumpkin.  I tried this to see if it would hold and they haven't fallen yet.  It's been over a week.)

-paintbrush

Directions:

1.  Cut out pumpkin shapes from the orange foam paper. You can do this ahead of time or let you kids do it, depending on their age.

2.  Draw lines on the pumpkin with the marker.

3.  Cut out two small leaves.

4.  Spread glitter glue all over the pumpkin.  I squirted some on and then let my kids spread it around with a paintbrush.  We glued our leaves on by pressing them into the glitter glue. (The directions I found said to use orange glitter glue but we had silver so we used that.)

5.  Cut a 4 inch piece of pipe cleaner and fold it in half, making a loop.

6. Hot glue the end pieces of the pipe cleaner to the back of the pumpkin.

7.  When all the glue is dry, hang the pumpkin by the pipe cleaner loop onto the suction cups and hang on your window.

Harper drew her own lines on her pumpkin.

I drew Palmer's lines on for her. She loved spreading the glitter glue all around!
